ABOUT MY LIBRARY

The college has a Main Library and 17 Departmental Libraries that collectively support the teaching, research and extension programmes. The Main Library has a huge collection of books on sciences, social sciences, literature and languages (English, Sanskrit, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil). The college library is functioning with the objective of providing services such as books, journals and Internet access to teachers and students in order to promote educational excellence in Sri Venkateswara College. The primary mission of the library is to support the educational and research programmes of the college by providing physical and intellectual access to information, consistent with the present and the anticipated educational and research functions of the college. In accordance with the objectives of the college, the library aims to develop a comprehensive collection of documents useful for the staff and student community. The library budget is about Rs.12.5 lakhs per annum.

LIBRARY COMPUTERIZATION

The Library uses LSEase (College version of Libsys software), which is an integrated multi-user library management system that supports all in-house operations of the library. LSEase consists of modules on acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, serials, article indexing and WEB-OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). Bibliographic information of all the books available in the library can now be accessed through the WEB-OPAC. Using WEB-OPAC, users can search the library’s holdings by Author, Title, Subject, Keywords or Combination search (Boolean search). Also, the users can know the latest additions of periodicals and books and the status of a document (whether on shelf, out i.e. issued, on display, sent for binding, withdrawn, etc.).
The database of books available in the library is being updated on day-to-day basis with details of recently acquired books. Records of all the library members have also been created in the LSEase package. The editing and updating activity is in progress simultaneously. The LSEase package has been successfully implemented for the circulation activities, i.e., issues and returns for staff and students. The package has also been implemented for Acquisition and Cataloguing activities. The data entry work for serials system is in progress.

Barcode Technology:

The library has implemented bar code based computerized circulation system in the library. All the staff members and students have been issued bar coded identity cards. The books are issued through these identity cards only.
! USERS ATTENTION PLEASE!

Staff members and students, who have not availed of this facility so far, are requested to fill-in the form for bar-coded Identity Card. The form is available with the college office.

Network Connections:
